CasePilot vs Excel / Manual Case Tracking

Most Indian advocates start their practice with an Excel sheet (or an exercise book, or a Google Sheet). It works — until it doesn't. Hearing dates missed, CNR numbers miscopied, file versions scattered across email and WhatsApp, and every time a new matter comes in, the same manual lookup-and-log dance.

CasePilot is built for the moment your practice outgrows a spreadsheet. eCourts syncs directly into case records, hearings flow into a calendar, documents live in one place with version history, and the AI assistant pulls answers grounded in your case files. This page walks through a concrete comparison so you can decide whether the switch is worth it for your practice.

Questions about the switch

Yes. The fastest path is to export a CSV from Excel (one row per matter, with columns for client, case title, CNR if known, and court) and use CasePilot's bulk import on the Cases screen. CNRs auto-sync to eCourts on import; matters without CNRs can be added and synced later.
The Advocate tier (₹1,000/mo) is designed for solo practices with 10–30 active matters. If you spend more than two hours a week on case-status lookups, hearing coordination, or chasing document versions, the tier pays for itself on time alone.
You can export all your data (cases, documents, chat history) as a ZIP at any time from Account Settings. Cancellation is month-by-month with no penalty; your data export is always available.
CasePilot is a web application and requires an internet connection for most operations (eCourts sync, AI features, document upload). Previously-viewed case details and documents are cached in your browser for short offline periods; drafting in the browser works offline and syncs when you reconnect.
All CasePilot data is stored on servers in India. We use AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit. Documents you upload are encrypted per-account and are not used for AI model training.
