Step-by-step: tracking a case

   Establish the seat

   Work it out from the CNR prefix, the order sheet, the vakalatnama or counsel on record. MPHC01 is Jabalpur, MPHC02 Indore, MPHC03 Gwalior.

   Open Case Status on mphc.gov.in

   Choose the Establishment, then one of six tabs: Case Number, Party Name, Adv. Enroll. No., Lawyer Name, Crime No./Year, District Court.

   Search by case number

   The Case Number tab wants Case Type, Number and Year — select the type from the dropdown, do not type it.

   No number? Search by party or advocate

   Party Name takes a name plus filing year. Adv. Enroll. No. takes an enrolment number and year, with filters for case year, case type and status (Both / Pending / Disposed).

   Only the trial court number?

   The District Court tab takes District, Case Type, Case No. and Year, and finds the High Court matter arising from it.

   Have a CNR?

   Use CNR Number on eCourts HC Services: sixteen characters, no hyphen or space. The court's own Case Status page has no CNR field.

   Mind the year range on the tab you are using

   Year dropdowns vary by tab: Case Number back to 1950; Party Name and advocate-enrolment case year 1960; Crime No./Year 1950; District Court back to 1900; Judgements 1980. That is the range the form accepts, not a promise that records exist that far back.

Case types you will get wrong

All three seats share one vocabulary — 51 case types with identical numeric codes at Jabalpur, Indore and Gwalior. On Judgements and e-Copying those values match the eCourts list exactly. On Case Status they do not: eight labels in that page's Case Type dropdown carry a neighbour's value in the HTML, so the form submits the twin — AA/ARBA, AC/ARBC, COMA/COMPA, CONC/CONT, CONCR/CONTR, ITA/MAIT, MACOM/MCOMA, MAVAT/VATA. Pick CONT — contempt petition, true code 15 — and the search posts 67, CONC; pick MAIT (28) and it posts 26, ITA. On screen the two are indistinguishable. If a search for one of these types returns nothing, retry with its twin, or run it on Judgements instead. The list carries two naming generations — older lowercase labels beside newer Title Case ones — and no "(OLD)" or CrPC/BNSS entries. The pairs that trip people:

FEMA (75) is spelled "Foriegn Exchange Management Appeal" — search the code, not the word.

Downloading orders and judgments

Judgements/Orders sits at mphc.gov.in/judgements, though the browser tab reads "Home". Mandatory: Bench, Case Type, Case Number, Filing Year. Optional filters: judges, party, counsel, type, a Between Dates range, AFR Only and sorting.

A separate AFR listing at /judgements-afr-front (its tab reads "Caveat") takes only Establishment and a From/To date range — the way to sweep reportable judgments. Hindi judgments sit at /hi-judgements.

Order PDFs sit at seat-encoded paths: /storage/upload/{seat}/{establishment}/{year}/{case type}/{number}/{filename}.pdf, with establishment codes MPHCJB, MPHCIND and MPHCGWL. A Gwalior order in WA 2652/2026 lands at .../gwalior/MPHCGWL/2026/WA/2652/WA_2652_2026_FinalOrder_02-09-2026.pdf. Some filenames carry a _digi suffix. The files are digitally signed; a "Signature Not Verified" banner reflects your reader's trust store, not the document.

Court Orders on eCourts HC Services can also be searched by Case Number, Court Number, Party Name, Order Date or Neutral Citation Number — copy the citation exactly as stamped on the judgment.

Certified copies are separate. mphc.gov.in/copying ("E-Copying") only tracks an application: have the Application Number and year, or Establishment plus Case Type, Case Number and Year. To apply, use erp.mphc.gov.in/highcourt/copying/sendOtp, which sends an OTP to a mobile number.

Cause lists

mphc.gov.in/causelist takes Establishment, Judge Name (the dropdown includes "ALL HON'BLE JUDGES") and a CauseList Date, then a list type — Motion, Final, Lok Adalat or Mediation — and bench strength: Single, Division or Full.

Three other routes are not equivalent: /advocate-en-causelist takes an enrolment number with a From Date / To Date range; /advocate-name-causelist takes an advocate name, also with a date range; /partyname-causelist takes a party name on a single date only.

Only the advocate pages look forward across several days. Alongside them sit /roster for subject allocation, /listing-policy, and /display-board for the live board. No page carries an "uploaded at" or "published at" field, so the date picker is the only indicator of which day's list you are reading.

Quirks specific to the Madhya Pradesh High Court

• Page titles are unreliable

  The Judgements page's browser title reads "Home", the AFR page "Caveat", the e-Certified Copy page "E-Court Fees". Navigate by the on-page heading and fields.

• The "next hearing" field can be stale

  WP 41909/2024 at Gwalior showed a next hearing of 6 February 2025 against a last hearing of 16 September 2025 — earlier than the last. Confirm against the cause list.

• Order titles come from a picklist and are not reliable

  MCRC 1000/2024 at Indore carries a final order titled "APPOINT P.LIQUIDATOR" — and so does WP 1000/2024 at Jabalpur, a different case type at another seat. The field reads as an unchanged default, not a rare mislabel. Open the PDF, not the label.

• Judge allocation may not be populated

  The presiding-judge field can read "CASE IS NOT ALLOCATED TO COURT." instead of a name, and the portal can return errors — retry before concluding a record is missing. mphc.gov.in also serves an incomplete certificate chain, so strict browsers may warn; the address is still right.

• The CNR box on services.ecourts.gov.in is the District Court service

  Skip the "High Courts" page on services.ecourts.gov.in: it is a directory of links, with the MP entry pointing back to mphc.gov.in. Its prominent "Search by CNR" box searches District Courts — feed it an MPHC CNR and you get a false "no record". Use eCourts HC Services at hcservices.ecourts.gov.in for High Court CNR lookups.
