Step-by-step: tracking a case

   Establish the seat first

   The CNR tells you which seat a matter belongs to. With only a case number, guess the seat and you read the wrong file.

   Open the matching portal

   Use hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jdp/ for Jodhpur and hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jp/ for Jaipur.

   Pick your facet

   Both instances offer Case/Reg. Type plus Year and No., CNR, URN No., Filing No. and Year, Filing Date, Registration Date, Adv. Enrolment No., Advocate Name, Party Name, FIR Details, Previous Court and Department, plus Pending / Disposed and SB / DB filters.

   Prefer the CNR

   The court's portal carries a dedicated 16-character CNR box. The eCourts High Court Services web form has none, for any High Court — it searches by case number, party, advocate and FIR. That is a limitation of the form, not of the data.

   Enter the verification code and search

   Then read the classification block, not just the cause title: Judicial Section (CRIMINAL / WRIT / CIVIL), Category and Sub-category, bench type, sitting judges and court code.

   For an unregistered matter, check Filing/Defect Status

   For a matter filed but not yet registered, the Filing/Defect Status page at hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jdp/defects/, and the Jaipur equivalent, reports whether it is stuck on registry objections. It needs three inputs minimum.

Case types you will get wrong

Both benches share one vocabulary, checked against the eCourts data layer (high court code 9; bench 1 = Jaipur, bench 2 = Jodhpur): the same 117 case types, codes and names. The case type therefore never tells you the seat — only the CNR or the citation does. The codes are not dense either: 117 types across 1 to 120, with 5, 17 and 95 absent, so a gap is not a missing type. Flag these near-identical codes to anyone filing on your behalf.

CRLAB and CRLMB are the easiest pair to confuse — both bail applications, one letter apart. There are also no separate BNSS- or CrPC-labelled case types: one criminal vocabulary serves both eras, so the code never tells you which statute a matter was filed under.

Downloading orders and judgments

To view and download a judgment or order, use the seat's Judgment Filters page — hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jdp/JudgementFilters/ or the -jp equivalent. It filters by From/To date (both mandatory), category (Criminal / Civil / Writ), case type, advocate, party, judge, bench type (SB / DB / All), document type (Judgement / Order / All), reportable status, PIL, and Citation No. with year. The dates pre-fill to a three-day window and reject future dates, so widen the range yourself.

Both judgment searches cap results at 1000 and truncate from opposite ends: Free Text Search at hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jdp/fts keeps the latest 1000, Judgment Filters the first 1000 — so a wide date range there silently drops the most recent matches. Narrow the range and page through it. Neither form states how far back the range may reach; that is untested. Free Text Search also offers Exact / Any / All / Boolean modes and a search-within-search on its results page.

A certified copy is a different route: the e-True Copy service. Apply after logging in to the court's Single Sign-On portal at hcraj.nic.in/sso/, reached from the homepage under e-True Copy then Apply — a registered SSO account is required. Track the application at hcraj.nic.in/ciscopying-status-jdp/ (Jodhpur) or hcraj.nic.in/ciscopying-status/ (Jaipur), which need the Inward No. and Inward Year plus the base type (Criminal / Civil / Writ); verify an issued copy at hcraj.nic.in/e_true_copy/udrn_verify. A Judgment Filters PDF is a copy to read, not a certified copy to file.

Cause lists

Two routes, not equivalent.

Quick Download, at hcraj.nic.in/quick-causelist-jdp/ and hcraj.nic.in/quick-causelist-jp/, gives a bare day / month / year picker and hands you the list — no court-number, judge or advocate filter. Both show the heading "Quick Download - Causelist"; only the page titles differ: "RHC Jodhpur Causelist Direct Download" and "RHCB Jaipur Causelist Direct Download".

The searchable cause list, at hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jdp/causelists/ and the -jp equivalent, is the one for daily use: list type (Daily, Supplementary, Weekly, Regular), Cause List Date, Court No., Hon'ble Judge, Case No., Lawyer Name, Petitioner Name, Respondent Name and Department Name, output as HTML or PDF.

Neither page shows a published-at field, so do not infer an upload schedule. The date dropdown is the only reliable indicator of which list you are reading — and check for a Supplementary separately: it is a distinct list type, not an update to the daily one.

Quirks specific to the Rajasthan High Court

• The CNR prefix is inverted against the bench code

  Verified against live records: Jodhpur CNRs begin RJHC01 and Jaipur CNRs RJHC02, while the eCourts bench code is 1 for Jaipur and 2 for Jodhpur.

• Case numbers collide across the seats

  Registration number 100/2024 exists independently at both: at Jaipur, CW 100/2024, GVPREL-DARA Joint Venture v. State of Rajasthan (CNR RJHC021073782023); at Jodhpur, CRLMA 100/2024 (CNR RJHC010134722024). A case number without a seat is ambiguous.

• Neutral citations carry the seat and the bench — and the citation search differs by seat

  The format is [YYYY:RJ-JD:NNNNN] for Jodhpur and [YYYY:RJ-JP:NNNNN] for Jaipur, with a -DB suffix for Division Bench judgments (2025:RJ-JD:41639-DB). The Jodhpur search at hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jdp/citation offers three prefix values — RJJD, RJ-JD and RJ-JP. The Jaipur search at hcraj.nic.in/cishcraj-jp/citation offers two — RJJP and RJ-JP. Each seat keeps its unhyphenated legacy form alongside the hyphenated one. Copy the string exactly as stamped, bench suffix and all, and pick the matching value on your seat's page; a citation that fails one form may need the other.

• URN is a handle you will not see on the eCourts form

  Each seat's case-status page carries a 10-digit numeric URN No. field alongside CNR, plus a standalone URN Search; the court nowhere expands the acronym. It is a different identifier from the CNR — and from UDRN, which authenticates an issued certified copy at hcraj.nic.in/e_true_copy/udrn_verify. Do not confuse them.

• Registry objections are published

  The case record carries the full scrutiny text, the numbered objection list and the compliance-by date — twelve objections verbatim on one record we read. Useful for chasing a defective filing.

• Miscellaneous applications carry their own CNR

  They also carry their own registration number, with Main case number and Main case CNR fields pointing back to the parent. Tracking the parent shows nothing about them.

• Year dropdowns are wide but prove nothing

  Case status and citation forms offer years back to 1951, the quick cause-list picker 2016 to 2027 — a UI choice, not proof digitised records exist for every year.

Common questions
