Step-by-step: tracking a case

   See the code table below. The vocabulary runs to 91 types, several differing by two characters.

   Search CSIS by Registration Number

   Type, number, year. Not yet registered? Use the Filing Number tab — the two numbers differ, and a case can sit on a filing number for months.

   If nothing returns, try the eCourts mirror

   Use state_cd=29 on hcservices.ecourts.gov.in, cross-checking by Party Name rather than number.

   Record the CNR

   Telangana CNRs begin HBHC01 — not TSHC or TGHC.

   Use the cause list for the next date

   For the next date, use the cause list; for the hall right now, the Display Board.

   Know where CNR lookup lives

   On eCourts HC Services, CNR lookup exists but sits as its own top-level menu item, not a Case Status tab — easy to miss. Enter the 16-character alphanumeric CNR without hyphens or spaces, per the portal's own instruction. CSIS has no CNR search at all.

Case types you will get wrong

The near-collisions here are the easiest way to search the wrong type. We tested all 91.

The "(OLD)" markers are live traps, not annotations: PIL 1/2023 returns nothing, while WP(PIL) 1/2023 returns a live record. CRP, CRLP and CRLRC are three consecutive codes whose abbreviations differ by a character or two. Two families are local: LGA 34 Land Grabbing Appeal (with TRLGA 85 and RESLGAIA 74), and CCCA 7 City Civil Court Appeal (with TRCCCA 55) for appeals from the City Civil Court at Hyderabad. None of the 91 types names the CrPC or the BNSS.

Downloading orders and judgments

Four routes carry orders; EHCR is not always the one holding yours.

EHCR at tshc.gov.in/ehcr/ offers case-number, judge-wise, party, order-date, free-text, Act, advocate and subject searches. We found no stated cap on its date-range search and did not test for one — do not assume a wide range is free.

The CSIS order store serves order and judgment PDFs directly under csis.tshc.gov.in/hcorders/ (for example .../2023/wp/wp_7154_2023.pdf).

eCourts Case Orders/Judgement for state_cd=29 searches by Case Number, Filling Number, Judge Wise, Party Name, Order Date and Neutral Citation Number.

DIGI THCR at tshc.gov.in/digihcr/ filters the digitised law reports by Year, Volume and Part behind a captcha. Its year dropdown runs 1990-2026 — a dropdown range, not proof every year is populated.

The court publishes Telugu translations: tshc.gov.in/ehcr/getjudgmentsTSHC heads itself "Judgments of High Court for the State of Telangana in Telugu" and lists Case Number, Judgment Date, Bench and parallel "English | తెలుగు" links, back to 1991 filings.

Neutral citations run YYYY:TSHC:NNNNN — for example 2025:TSHC:24469 — with no bench suffix on the judgments we saw. The format is taken from judgments seen, not from a located circular: copy the string exactly as stamped and do not reconstruct it.

Certified copies are a separate track. Apply through the registry's CD/CA application, then follow it through the CD tabs on CSIS: Search CD Number, Search CD Number By Main Case No, and Filing Stage cases CD Search. The copy you download from EHCR is for reference, not for filing.

Cause lists

The Live Status of Cause List page is the one to bookmark. Its heading carries the date ("CAUSE LIST UPLOADING STATUS DATED: 03-09-2026") and its columns are SNo., Court Hall No., Hon'ble Bench, ListType, Status, Uploaded Date, PDF. A row reads, for example, 1 | 1 | DB-I | D | UPLOADED | 02-09-2026 18:28 | View. The timestamped Uploaded Date tells you whether a bench's list is actually out.

On listing days, the Display Board shows Court No (Coram), Running Item No, Case Number and Passed Over Cases, with the legend "NS: Not in Session, S- Supplementary List, P- Passed Over, SP- Supplementary List Passed Over". Its own disclaimer notes a possible time gap in transmission; confirm exact status at the concerned court.

The eCourts mirror also serves a cause list for state_cd=29; its form asks only for a date.

Quirks specific to the Telangana High Court

• The bifurcation is not a clean cut

  The combined High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad served both states until 31 December 2018; from 1 January 2019, Telangana kept the Hyderabad registry and Andhra Pradesh got a new High Court at Amaravati (eCourts code 2). WP 100/1995, an excise matter from Guntur in Andhra, appears on both portals under two CNRs: HBHC010199101995 and APHC010199101995 — same parties, same Full Bench, same disposal, identical serial 0199101995, only the state prefix swapped. WP 1/2016 behaves the same way: HBHC010425932016 and APHC010425932016, same parties, same filing number 237492/2015. WP 100/2016 exists only on Telangana. WP 1/2018 exists only on Andhra Pradesh, and with a fresh low serial (APHC010000012018) rather than a mirrored one.

• For anything pre-2019, search both portals

  The practical rule: for anything pre-2019, search both code 29 and code 2, and match on party names rather than on the number. The same type, number and year can return a different case on each portal.

• Transferred matters get renumbered, and the CNR keeps the old year

  The transfer family runs to 18 types — WP(TR), CC(TR), CRLATR, TRAS, TRCCCA, TRCMA, TRCMP, TRCOS, TRCRLA, TRCRLMP, TRCRLP, TRLGA, TRSUMMARYSUIT, TRICOMAOA, COMTA, COMTOA, RESWPMP(TR), REVWP(TR)MP. We pulled WP(TR) 1/2019: filed 29 April 2017 under filing number 96125/2017, registered afresh on 9 April 2019, CNR HBHC010746222017. The registration number says 2019; the CNR and the filing number both say 2017.

• The last four digits of a CNR are the year of filing

  More generally, the last four digits of a Telangana CNR are the year of filing, which may differ from the year in the registration number. WP 1/2025 is HBHC010725802024; WP(PIL) 1/2023 is HBHC010594302022; CC 1/2024 is HBHC010652162023. Cases registered early in a year were often filed the year before, so a CNR ending 2024 on a case numbered 1/2025 is normal — do not reject a CNR because its year looks wrong.
